IIC Winter School 2020: IIC Research Group meets Practical Quests
On Thursday, March 5, 2020, the second IIC Winter School was held on the educational campus in Heilbronn, which brings together various institutions from the field of current research. The event had the theme “IIC Research Group meets Practical Quests” and was conducted under the direction of Dirk Slama (Bosch GmbH), Prof. Heiner Lasi and Daniel Burkhardt (Ferdinand Steinbeis Institute). PhD students and post-docs from various universities and colleges were invited to the IIC Winter School.
The goals of the workshop were:
- Introduction to design-oriented research with insight into qualitative methods
- Overview of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC)
- Processing of UseCases for Craftsmen’s Quests
- Networking with other doctoral students
The first day of the Winter School started with the presentation of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) followed by topics on design oriented research with a presentation of qualitative methods presented by Alexander Neff of the Ferdinand Steinbeis Institute. In the afternoon, Dirk Slama of Bosch GmbH gave a presentation on the approach of transfer-oriented co-innovation. Project methods of joint cooperation across company boundaries were presented.
The second day of the Winter School started with the presentation of the IIC testbeds “Track & Trace” and “Smart Factory Web” by Dirk Slama and Kym Watson of Fraunhofer IOSB. Furthermore the day was very interactive with group work on the “Craftsmen’s Quests”. Solutions to various problems from the craft trades were developed, which were finally discussed among the participants.
About the IIC Research Group: The IIC Research Group is a group of researchers (at doctoral and post-doctoral level) focused on the Industrial Internet of Things. During the various meetings, ideas are exchanged and best practices or recommendations for scientific approaches are developed. In addition, the members’ research is discussed and original content is created.
About the IIC: The IIC was founded by AT&T, Cisco, General Electric, IBM, and Intel in March 2014. It is an organization with more than 250 companies which was formed to accelerate the development, adoption and widespread use of interconnected machines and devices and intelligent analytics.
